Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is passion?
A: My definition of passion is, "The energy that comes from bringing more of YOU into what you do." It's being who you are, and doing the things that are most naturally energizing and engaging to you.

Q: Who are you, and why should I listen to you?
A: You're right to be cautious. This is an important decision for you.

For the last seven years, the focus of my work has been helping people create careers that energize and inspire them. In addition to my coaching, I write and speak on the topic. I wrote regularly for Motto magazine, a national magazine founded by two Wall Street Journal veterans that focused on "Work with Purpose, Passion & Profit."

I have written two books, one a paper book and one an e-book, on finding a career that lights you up. I have developed a proven system that offers a no-nonsense, nuts-and-bolts approach the process. I have been quoted in newspapers around North America, including The Seattle Times, The Boston Globe, The Houston Chronicle, The Globe & Mail, and New York Newsday.

You can see my bio here for more information.

Q: Are you going to tell me what to do?
A: Most emphatically, no! As a Passion Catalyst, I am a facilitator, enabling your exploration and discovery. My role is to pose questions that help you crystalize your thoughts, examine the possibilities, and discover new ways of approaching things. It is not to impose my own views on you.

Q: What is "The Occupational Adventure Guide?"
A: The Occupational Adventure Guide is the step-by-step system I developed to help people create Meaning, Abundance, & Passion (M.A.P.) in their careers.

It is also the name of an e-book that allows you to work through that process on your own.

Q: How would I work with you?
A: Most of my clients work with me for at least a three month engagement, but I do offer a variety of options with a shorter time frame. For more information, check out my coaching packages page.

Q: I don't live in Seattle. Can I still work with you?
A: Yes. In fact most of my clients are located elsewhere in the world. By far the majority of my work is done by phone.

Q: Is this just a bunch of feelgood motivational fluff?
A: I'm not a big fan of motivational approaches that are long on fluff and short on substance. I'm interested in offering people tools they can use to make a hands-on, real-world change for the better in their lives.

Q: What if I find my passion and can't do it? Then I'll have no hope.
A: My approach involves identifying the underlying characteristics of what lights you up. When you understand that, there are many different paths that might incorporate those. So for the Mozarts and Einsteins of the world, maybe there is one thing they are meant to be doing, but for the rest of us there are dozens of paths to passion!

Q: But I have (a family / a mortgage / college payments / etc.). I can't just jump in the deep end of the pool and pursue my passion.
A: Obligation to responsibilities (financial or otherwise) often leaves us with a feeling of limited options. Part of this is the "all or nothing" mentality in the culture we live in. I can help you explore ways to incorporate your passion into your life now (baby steps), and lay the foundation for pursuing it more wholeheartedly in the long term (giant leap).

Client Quotes

"Curt's skill in asking the directed questions, and really uncovering the true core and the essential pieces, is a true art."

- Derek in Salt Lake City, UT

"For me, the fear of making a change was wrapped up in making a bad choice. 'I think I want to do this, but what if I'm wrong?' Now, with every choice I make, I know this is something I have an interest in, and have passion for. It all adds up."

- Jennifer in Redmond, WA

“I don’t drag myself to work now. I have to drag myself away from work. I get upset when I have to take time off. This is more fun than time off!"

- Dave in Seattle, WA
